Responding when someone first becomes homeless

St Mungo's want to ensure that if anyone has to sleep in an unsafe place, their situation is swiftly understood and they are supported to access sustainable solutions to end their homelessness.

This requires a new national strategy to end rough sleeping, as well as an increase in the number of local areas with a strong commitment to end rough sleeping.

We also want to see improvements to the homelessness legislation, including a new universal homelessness prevention and relief duty to help stop people sleeping rough in the first place.
