At St Mungo’s we pride ourselves on our trustworthy and transparent fundraising practices.

As a supporter of our charity we want to assure you that our fundraising is ethical and that your donations will be used effectively and transparently.

Our promise to you 

We take our responsibilities seriously in relation to compliance with the Institute of Fundraising (IoF) and their Codes of Fundraising Practice. For more information about the IoF, please click here. We are a member of the Public Fundraising Association (PFRA), this membership body for charities and agencies who carry out street and door fundraising. The PFRA has recently merged with the IOF becoming a compliance arm within the IOF. As part of our in house street fundraising activity, we commission a programme of mystery shopping, to ensure our teams are offering the highest standard of donor care and are fully compliant with the PFRA regulations. We will only call you if we have your permission, and before calling we will check against the Telephone Preference Services (TPS) to make sure we don’t include anyone who has chosen to avoid calls. We do not carry out any cold calling or purchase telephone data in order to call members of the public that we do not have on our database. Our internal regulation and our governance

Following the merger of the two charities, St Mungo’s and Broadway, in 2014, we have sought to establish governance and Board protocols and policies and structures which are fit-for-purpose for the organisation and which are recognised as being best practice. We commissioned an independent review of our Governance requirements. From this report, the Executive team developed an action plan and is delivering to all of its recommendations.

In addition, we established a client consultation board in 2014, to increase the involvement of our clients in the governance of the organisation. Its role is to inform and influence the Board’s decision making, holding them to account on behalf of our charity’s beneficiaries. This is in addition to OutsideIn, our client involvement group that works with all of our services to ensure clients are at the heart of all that we do.

Our external regulators

In addition to Commissioners and funders, as a charity and housing association, we are also regulated by a number of external regulators. These include but are not limited to:

  • Home and Communities Agency
  • Charity Commission
  • Health & Safety Executive
  • Care Quality Commission

If you are one of our supporters and you wish to know what information we have on our database about you, please feel welcome to contact our Data Insights and Donor Relations Manager on supportercare@mungos.org.  Please note, we will need to verify your identity with a series of questions in order to discuss this with you.

We require any third parties we work with such as printers and mailing houses to sign a Non-Disclosure Agreement in advance. All data is protected by us through the use of secure FTTP sites or is password protected. Third parties are not allowed to use our data for any other purpose or for their own purposes. This is enforceable by law. We never have and never will rent out or sell our data.
