In Parliament

Our parliamentary activity is an important element in our wider campaigning work.

We aim to influence the views of politicians of all parties on the issues which affect homeless men and women. St Mungo's is calling for:

Reinvigorated government commitment that leads to:

  • A right to shelter
  • Nobody with mental illness on the streets
  • Guaranteed highly supportive move on accommodation for each rough sleeper entering emergency provision with significant mental health problems or complex needs.
  • An increase in the winter emergency shelter provision
  • A right to onsite health services and training opportunities for every former rough sleeper now in a hostel
  • A radical rethink of the treatment options for rough sleepers with drug and alcohol problems

Our Public Affairs team works proactively to:

  • provide information to MPs and Peers on a variety of housing and homelessness issues;
  • regularly meet and brief politicians;
  • attend and hold events at the annual party conferences to raise the profile of homelessness issues.
