Creating places of change at St Mungo's
28 March 2008
St Mungo's is delighted to be one of 17 organisations in London to have been awarded funding by the Communities and Local Government through their "Places of Change" programme.
The aim of the programme is to upgrade facilities and create more training and employment opportunities for the capital's homeless.
St Mungo's is receiving funding for three projects including:
- Our wood workshop, which trains homeless people to make furniture for our hostels
- Our Pound Lane hostel - refurbishments to this hostel will allow us to provide an open activity space, atriums for music and arts, and a community centre
- The Lodge House, City of London - This cutting edge project will help get some of the most entrenched rough sleepers in central London off the streets, offering 'light touch' keyworking from a 'landlady' and staff team.
Mike McCall, Executive Director of Operations at St Mungo's, said:
"St Mungo's welcomed the first round of Hostels Capital Improvement Programme funding, which has enabled us to make dramatic improvements to our services. We welcome the continued investment from the Government and are confident that it will change many homeless peoples' lives for the better."
