Our mental health specialist workers

Over 60% of St Mungo's clients have issues with their mental health. Our mental health specialist workers:

  • monitor the progress of clients who have an identified mental health need, referring them to statutory services where appropriate
  • run client support groups and offers Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT)
  • provide support, advice and training to staff, working in partnership with clinicians to maintain best practice

Our innovative projects in this field include the LifeWorks programme and the Neighbourhood Link scheme.

St Mungo's Director of Health and Recovery, Peter Cockersell, has also written a paper on Homelessness and mental health: adding clinical mental health interventions to existing social ones can greatly enhance positive outcomes also appeared in the Journal of Public Mental Health (2011 - pay to read).

During 2009 our campaigning work focussed on mental health. As part of this we went to our clients to ask them how they feel about their mental health and wellbeing, what they think about the services available to them, and what they think would help. The resulting Happiness Matters report looks at subjects including access and barriers to services and support for mental health, the impact of drink and drugs, and emotional wellbeing.
