Laura’s story

Laura* runs a women’s group at one of our Recovery Colleges. Back in 2015, when her marriage broke down, she was told to leave her home of 30 years and didn’t know where to go. She found a place to mend in one of our women’s services.

Laura explains how, in recovering from homelessness and dominating relationships, she learnt to appreciate her own self-worth and to become independent. Listen as she talks about finding her own voice – a voice she now uses to empower others. This is her story.

*Laura’s name has been changed to protect her identity.

Recovery College

The St Mungo’s Recovery College is a pioneering, inclusive learning programme, based on the principle that learning can be a transformative experience. All activities at our College are underpinned by our recovery service ethos.

Our 50 year history is filled with some extraordinary people. To mark our anniversary, we will be profiling 50 Lives throughout 2019 – a snapshot of those who have played their part in our story. You can read the stories on our website at www.mungos.org/50-lives.
