Marie’s story

After recovering from homelessness and alcohol misuse, Marie began volunteering with St Mungo’s. She went on to start an apprenticeship in a St Mungo’s hostel in 2009 and, ten years later, she now manages a St Mungo’s project in London, providing supported housing for men with substance use issues.

Marie has taken from her own lived experience of homelessness to provide support to clients at the service. Listen as she reflects on her past and discusses the opportunities she has found at St Mungo’s since she started as a volunteer.

Our 50 year history is filled with some extraordinary people. To mark our anniversary, we will be profiling 50 Lives throughout 2019 – a snapshot of those who have played their part in our story. You can read the stories on our website at
