Severe weather procedures

In certain areas of the country, emergency weather protocol may be called when the temperature drops to critical levels. When this happens, our team will be helping to get vulnerable people into warm, COVID-secure spaces wherever we can. You can find out more about where emergency weather protocols are in place by following #StMungosWinterResponse on Twitter.

What we are doing to help

Following on from our recent work during the pandemic, we are still running hotels.

This year, we've helped people safely self-isolate in hotels and other accomodation, and these hotels are still running across areas we work in. This winter we will continue to protect people from the cold and from coronavirus.

What our help can mean for people?

“It was the middle of winter and it was really cold. I had two jackets on plus a sleeping bag and blankets to try to stay warm. It can be cold and it can be raining and you have nowhere to go. You wake up in the morning feeling hungry – I would ask myself where my next meal would come from.

One day someone from St Mungo’s outreach team spoke to me and told me how I could get help. That was when I found hope.”

What can you do to help

If you’re concerned about someone sleeping rough, contact StreetLink.

StreetLink is run by St Mungo’s in partnership with Homeless Link, and is the best way to let us know so that we can try to bring them in from the cold. If someone is in immediate danger, please call the emergency services on 999.

Donate money or goods

Your donation could help to transform the life of someone experiencing homelessness. Just £25 could pay for someone to get a basic health check, while £50 could run a course in basic skills or literacy. Find out more www.mungos.org/winter

In addition, gifts, meals and decorations are a wonderful way of showing support to vulnerable people who are separated from friends and family. Find out what we can accept at our services and how to donate them safely here: https://www.mungos.org/get-involved/other-ways-to-donate/donate-goods/
