Home For Good

Everyone deserves a Home for Good and, with the right support, everyone can find and keep one.

Homelessness services provide one-to-one support to help people find a home and cope with complex problems like poor mental health, substance use and domestic abuse. Without the right funding, these services cannot function properly, and it’s the most vulnerable people who suffer.

For someone like Jan, the one-to-one support he received from his keyworker Paulina was vital in turning his life around.

Everyone deserves the chance I’ve had to turn things around for themselves. That’s why I’m supporting St Mungo’s Home for Good campaign. The Government must do more to make sure that everyone can get the support I’ve had.”

In 2016 I became homeless because I couldn’t make the rent for my flat in Brighton, despite working as a labourer. After sofa surfing for a while, I lived in the woods on and off for around two years.

I used to go to a local day centre for a shower, food and clothing. It was there that I met Paulina. Having Paulina as my keyworker has changed everything. For the first time, I feel like someone’s supporting me and she treats me like a person. She’s helped me with so much, from supporting me to get back into work to supporting me to deal with my finances.

I didn’t realise when I was sleeping rough that I had depression. It was Paulina who pushed me to go to the doctor, I would never have gone without her and I’m now getting treatment.

Without Paulina, I know I’d still be on the streets instead of in my own place, working towards independence. She makes me want to put the effort in, because she’s working so hard as well – it’s why I wanted to go back to work. She’s given me back my self-confidence and self-respect.
