St Mungo’s Home for Good

Will the Prime Minister act to end rough sleeping for good?

Government action can end rough sleeping. We’re determined to keep the scandal of people sleeping on the streets on the Government’s agenda. With the help of hundreds of Frontline readers, we’re doing just that.

On 13 September St Mungo’s clients knocked on the door of No.10 Downing Street and delivered over 750 personal messages from St Mungo’s clients, staff and supporters – including readers of Frontline – each explaining why ending rough sleeping must be a priority for this Government.

Nobody needs to die sleeping out on our streets. With the right support everyone can find and keep a home for good.

We’ve been really moved by all the heartfelt messages people have shared saying why ending rough sleeping is important. Reading through them all it seemed that there was one thing that makes an extra £54 million will be invested in reducing rough sleeping next year. This is good news. But the new money is only for one more year, and with £1bn less per year being spent on essential homelessness services than ten years ago much more must be done.

To end rough sleeping for good we need long-term guaranteed funding.

That’s why we will continue to campaign for longer term investment in next year’s three year Spending Review, and we will be making sure it’s at the top of all political parties’ agendas if a general election is called.

Nobody needs to die sleeping out on our streets. With the right support everyone can find and keep a home for good.
