St Mungo’s and London South Bank University won Partnership of the Year at the Student Nursing Times Award 2018 during a ceremony at London Hilton Hotel. [Thursday 26 April].

The awards honoured student nurses, universities and organisations from across the student nursing community in 19 categories dedicated to celebrating exceptional achievement.

Jill Connell, Social Work Practice Assessor, St Mungo’s said: “I’m over the moon that the partnership approach between St Mungo’s and London South Bank University has been recognised at the Nursing Times Student Awards, it is a great achievement.

“Staff are using the opportunity presented by the placements to educate future professionals who will be working with our clients in hospitals, challenging stereotypes and stigma, and, at the same time, are learning about nursing and healthcare from the students. They are role modelling excellent healthcare professional behaviour and helping clients think about their health, their personal choices and breaking down barriers which can prevent clients from accessing the NHS.”

St Mungo’s provides 6 x 6 week placements and 1 x 4 week elective placement to LSBU nursing students, per academic year. Around 150 nursing students undertake a practice learning experience at the charity, annually.

The partnership includes working in; Community outreach teams, Specialist mental health teams, Substance use teams, Hospital Discharge team, Routes Home team and the Tenancy sustainment team.

The partnership offers many benefits for staff as well as the nursing students and our clients.
