St Mungo’s has been nominated for the London School of Economics’ Voluntary Organisation of the Year 2021 Award.
The annual award celebrates organisations that have put considerable effort into working with London School of Economics (LSE) student volunteers, staff and faculty. The winner will be announced at tomorrow’s LSE Volunteer Awards (Wednesday 5 May).
St Mungo’s is currently in the first year of a strategic partnership with LSE to reduce homelessness in the community, and to empower staff and students to help make a change by volunteering, fundraising and influencing policy and research.
The partnership is part of LSE’s three-year commitment to addressing homelessness on their campus – located across the London boroughs of Camden and Westminster – and in the wider community.
Responding to the nomination Jay Hunt, Head of Partnerships at St Mungo’s said: “I’m delighted that the partnership between LSE and St Mungo’s has been recognised at the LSE Volunteer Awards. The partnership was created in response to the compassion and concern shared by many staff and students for people experiencing homelessness in the local community.
“St Mungo’s has spent the past year ensuring that thousands of vulnerable people were protected and sheltered in emergency accommodation during the pandemic, and we couldn’t have achieved this without the hard work and dedication of our wonderful volunteers, fundraisers and supporters like LSE.
“We’re proud to have offered guidance and support to both LSE and the LSE Student Union, as we work together to provide fundraising opportunities, volunteering roles and training for staff.”
At the height of the Covid-19 pandemic, St Mungo’s managed 27 hotels across London, the South East and the South-West, supporting over 4,000 people to isolate safely in emergency accommodation.
During lockdown, LSE volunteers hosted several seasonal fundraising events, including a Virtual 10k and contributing to the St Mungo’s virtual Christmas Collection. Students were also given the opportunity to donate £5 to St Mungo’s 2021 as part of the National Student Survey (NSS) and Undergraduate Survey.
