Leading homelessness charity St Mungo’s has responded to the news that tougher national Coronavirus restrictions are set to come into effect on Thursday (5 November).
Following the Prime Minister’s announcement at a press conference on Saturday evening where he said that the strict measures will be introduced aimed at slowing the spread of Covid-19, Steve Douglas CBE, Chief Executive of St Mungo’s said: “Our priority at this time is finding practical and safe solutions for people sleeping rough and facing homelessness over the next month, and as winter approaches.
“The ‘Everyone In’ initiative showed what could be achieved when we worked together. And over the coming days we will be in discussion with the Ministry of Housing, Communities and Local Government, and local authority partners to see how we, and other organisations, can ensure people who are homeless are supported with the help they need given this latest guidance.”
More details about the how the Government is to respond to the tightening of restrictions are expected over the coming days.
