Leading homelessness charity St Mungo’s is delighted to welcome Joanna Killian as its new Chair of Trustees.

Joanna is Chief Executive of Surrey County Council, and she was previously a partner and Head of Local Government and Devolution at KPMG LLP. She has been a member of St Mungo’s diverse, experienced and unpaid Board of Trustees since February 2019.

Her other non-executive roles have included Board Member at London and Quadrant Housing and Chairperson of SOLACE, the professional organisation representing Chief Executives in local government.

She succeeds Robert Napier CBE, who stepped down from his role as Chair at this year’s AGM following six years of service.

Joanna has taken up her post following a selection process that included St Mungo’s clients and staff. She will support the organisation’s development and the implementation of its five-year strategic plan, galvanising support from national government and its agencies, and with partners across local government and the voluntary sector to end rough sleeping in England by 2026.

Joanna Killian, new Chair of St Mungo’s Board of Trustees, said:

“I am delighted to be joining St Mungo’s and to be working with my fellow Trustees in support of the chief executive Steve Douglas and the Executive Team. I am keen to ensure that St Mungo’s continues to deliver positive impacts for clients, and also to see that both the Government and commissioners adhere to the goal of ending rough sleeping within this Parliament.

“Moving forward, I am eager for us to keep both our present and future clients in the forefront of our minds as we make each and every decision – from the strategic steps we need to take as an organisation, to the actions we take every day in supporting, encouraging and sometimes offering challenge to those who we work with and for.”

Joanna’s appointment continues St Mungo’s commitment as an organisation to diversity, equality and inclusion:

Chief Executive of St Mungo’s, Steve Douglas CBE, said:

“I am delighted that Joanna has been appointed as our new Chair. With a wealth of experience in public and commercial service, and a strong background in adult’s and children’s health and social care services, she will lead our Board of Trustees through the next stage of our transformation journey as a leading homelessness charity.”
