Ending homelessness, rebuilding lives

Recovery College Art Group Volunteer

As an Art Group Volunteer you will be facilitating art sessions with groups of clients at our Recovery College.

About the role

It’s fantastic that you’d like to find out more about volunteering at St Mungo’s. While sleeping rough is the most visible form of homelessness, the causes and consequences of having nowhere stable to live are often much more complicated. That’s why we’ve developed a recovery based approach for our clients, focusing on addressing the issues a person faces to help them move on with their lives.

A big part of this is encouraging clients to engage with activities, either in the accommodation where they live or through our Recovery Colleges. Activities are often someone’s first step towards thinking about their aspirations and going on to access services for employment and learning. As a volunteer supporting clients to take part in activities, you will be doing something simple that makes a really big difference. As an Art Group Volunteer you will be facilitating art sessions with groups of clients guided by St Mungo’s values. We believe that everyone has strengths, and you need to be able to facilitate sessions in a way that are inclusive and empowering. The ability to encourage and support homeless clients with no previous art experience is more important than advanced technical skills.
