As a leading homelessness charity, St Mungo’s shares its experience and expertise with our partners and Government to support solutions to end street homelessness for good.

Working in partnership with our clients and staff and partners across the homelessness sector, St Mungo’s advocates for the solutions that will help end rough sleeping. Our influencing work is shaped by the lessons of people who have lived and worked through homelessness.

We are stronger when we work together. And St Mungo’s works to ensure that ending rough sleeping is seen as everybody’s business.

Accommodation

We know that the right accommodation with the right support at the right time plays a huge part in preventing homelessness and supporting an individual to recover from it. We advocate for high quality housing and support for people experiencing homelessness.

Health

We know that poor health is both a cause and a consequence of homelessness. Treating rough sleeping as a public health issue, rather than just a housing issue, saves lives and supports people to recover from homelessness.

Inclusivity

We know that we need services that can effectively respond to the needs of people experiencing homelessness and that they are accessible and inclusive of people’s unique and diverse experiences. We work to dismantle the barriers that stop people from getting the help they need.

The Kerslake Commission

In 2021, St Mungo’s became the Secretariat of the Kerslake Commission.

Chaired by Lord Bob Kerslake, the Kerslake Commission on Homelessness and Rough Sleeping has examined the lessons from the emergency response, which supported people sleeping rough during the Covid-19 pandemic.

Its aim is to help all agencies involved in supporting those who are rough sleeping, or homeless and at risk of rough sleeping, to understand what worked during the pandemic and what is now needed to end homelessness for good. It has produced recommendations which have been taken up by Government at national, regional and local levels, public health agencies, and the housing and homelessness sectors.
