Dorothy Brown

People Committee Member

Appointed as the first Chief Operating Officer of the British Red Cross in 2021, having held the role of Chief People Officer since June 2019.

Leading the Internal Services Directorate, Dorothy is accountable for ensuring that the experience of BRC’s people is a positive one, in that they have the right tools to do their jobs, the right internal infrastructure, and the right investment in their development and wellbeing.

The Directorate encompasses a broad range of enabling functions, including Technology, Data, People Services, Property Services, Professional Services, Volunteering and Youth, Internal Shared Services, and Transformation and Change.

Prior to joining the British Red Cross, Dorothy was a member of the senior civil service, holding several senior HR and operational positions in Her Majesty’s Revenue and Customs, including the Director of Tax operations where she was responsible for the 20,000 people delivering all the operational activity for the UK’s 40 million taxpayers. In the Ministry of Justice, she held several operational and specialist roles including the Director of HR Operations, covering Her Majesty’s Courts and Tribunals Service and the Prison Service.
