Leading homelessness charity St Mungo's has been ranked 39th in the new 2012 list of gay-friendly employers, released today by LGBT charity Stonewall.
St Mungo's follows Nacro (at 33) and Citizens Advice (at 37) as the top three voluntary sector organisations in the list.
The annual list, which was topped this year by Ernst & Young, The Homes Office and Barclays PLC, ranks employers using the workplace equality index (WEI).
Kevin Gamble, Chair of St Mungo's LGBT Focus Group said: "This is a real cause for celebration. St Mungo's works hard to ensure that LGBT awareness and inclusion are very much part of how we support equality and diversity among our clients and staff"
Jordana Ramalho, St Mungo's Diversity Advisor, said: "St Mungo's believes we are stronger as an organisation and as a society if we recognise and celebrate diversity. We are committed to actively challenging inequality of opportunity. Diversity and equality is one of three core values at St Mungo's and we will shortly be launching our new Equality in Action Plan."
The workplace equality index is based on a range of key indicators which this year included a confidential survey of lesbian, gay and bisexual employees, with over 7,500 participants. This consistently confirmed that the satisfaction levels of gay staff were highest at the top-ranking organisations in the Index.
St Mungo's is the highest-ranking homelessness organisation listed in the index.
