Cold weather support

When it's freezing, supporting rough sleepers out of the cold and into emergency shelter provision is vital.

During the extreme cold weather our outreach teams in London (Westminster, Southwark and Ealing) and the South (Bristol, Oxford, Reading, Gloucestershire, Sussex, Brighton and Hove and South Essex) are out supporting individuals into emergency shelter provision, engaging even more with rough sleepers and those in need, and tracking down new referrals.

Our teams work with local boroughs on what is called SWEP provision (Severe Weather Emergency Protocols).

During the cold weather we would ask people to help us even more:

  • If you are concerned about someone rough sleeping in any area, you can call the national StreetLink number on 0300 500 0914 or visit their website so they can connect them to local services.
  • If it is an emergency situation, please call 999 for an ambulance or the police.
  • Volunteer at our emergency cold weather shelter which comes into action in extreme weather.

You can also contact, in London, the No Second Night Out service, or winter night shelters - for information on who to contact across London, see Homeless Link webpages.
