Promoting your fundraiser

You’ve got a great idea, with a date and time in mind but how will you get it out there? Here are some top tips for promoting your fundraiser

Set up an online fundraising page

Setting up an online fundraising page with JustGiving is one of the quickest and easiest ways to both share what you’re doing, why you’re doing it and collect donations. Find out more about setting up your fundraising page below.

Tell people

The quickest way to make people aware of the fundraiser that you’re running is to tell your network. This includes your family, friends and colleagues but could also include your neighbours, place of worship, sports club, community group or school run parents.

Think about how you communicate and how you can reach all of your connections – WhatsApp, Discord, social media or email. You might have people who you know who communicate better over the phone and would rather pay in donations off line.

Share your event on social media

Social media is a great way to update your network about your activity – think about the people you’re connected to, you might not be in contact with these people very often and this is a way to engage with them. Don’t forget to add your fundraising link to your bio or in your posts, always tag St Mungo’s and if you’re taking part in an organised event, remember to tag the organiser as well.

Team up with a local business

Thinking about running an event where a local business might want to support? Perhaps they can offer free drinks and snacks on event day, or will sponsor the cost of any materials you need, or they have offered to host. Either way, ask them if they would like to promote the fundraiser both through their email newsletter and over social media. Don’t forget to tag them in any posts you put out as well, as it’s likely they’d reshare.

Get local press involved

Publicising your event in the local media is a great way to attract support, while raising awareness of our lifesaving research. Press releases can also help you reach people who might not see your event online. If you think you have a story that might capture the nation’s interest, let us know and we can ask our press team to get involved.
