Setting up a fundraising page

Fundraising online

Our recommended online fundraising platform is JustGiving. They charge a minimal fee of 2.9% + 35p on donations, which means more money comes to St Mungo’s in comparison to other providers.

Creating your page

It’s easy to set up a JustGiving page for your fundraising event or activity:

  • Visit the St Mungo’s JustGiving page and click ‘Fundraise for us’.
  • Log in to your account or create a new account if you do not have one.
  • Choose your fundraising activity, or select ‘Doing your own thing’.
  • Choose your web address – this is the link that you’ll share with supporters.
  • Click ‘Create your page’ and start personalising it.

If you’re part of a company, social club or sports team, you could raise an average of 36% more by setting up a team page. Teams will have fundraiser and team totals, heightening the competitive spirit! Find out more here.

Personalise your page

Make the most of your JustGiving page by making it your own

Show supporters your fundraising for your chosen charity – why does it mean so much to you? Writing a story on your JustGiving page helps your supporters understand why you’re fundraising. You could raise 65% more if you do.

Fundraisers with pictures or videos on their JustGiving page raise 13% more per photo. This also offers you an opportunity to share photos and videos over social media where you can add your JustGiving link.

Setting a target is really important as it gives you and your supporters something to aim for. It’s also satisfying to watch yourself get closer to your goal. On average, those who set a target raise up to 17% more money. Targets can also change, so if you hit yours early, increase this to incentivise people to give more.

Thinking of taking part in a run, hike, cycle, swim or any other physical challenge? Connect your Strava or Fitbit to your JustGiving page. This allows you automatically post your achievements. You can also update your miles, pictures, and routes making your fundraising more fun and show just how committed you are.

Donating to your own fundraising shows your passion for the cause and can raise 42% more money. This is also a good way to start a precedence in how much to donate – if you give £20, your supporters are more likely to match this amount.

You can also add Gift Aid to all donations using JustGiving, which will boost the donation amount by 25% at no extra cost.

Remember to post regular updates about your fundraising. It encourages people to revisit your page and they may even share it with their friends.

Attach certain actions to amounts raised. For example, tell your supporters that if you raise £500, you’ll dress up as a barnyard animal for a day, or, if you reach £1,000, you’ll shave your head. This will also make great photos to add to your page!

Your network will not be aware of the challenge or how to donate unless you share it with them. Social media is great to get you started and add updates on your training. Whatsapp will give you the largest reach, directly popping into everyone’s chats. And remember email, this is especially useful for the workplace or with elderly relatives.

Consider refreshing your social media profile picture too, to let everyone know you’re fundraising for St Mungo’s .

Ask your employer if they are part of the Matched Giving scheme – you will probably need to check with HR. Many companies participate in this and will match the amount you raise, doubling your contribution.
