Employment Support

Supporting people to gain independence through work.

Employment can play a crucial role in helping people to move on from homelessness and build lasting independence. A job provides more than income; it offers structure, purpose, social connection, and a pathway to self-reliance. Ambition among our clients is high: 63% of St Mungo’s clients surveyed in 2024 saw paid work as part of their future.

The Employment Support Team

Our Employment Support team assists people who are interested in finding work. We use an evidence-based approach called IPS (Individual Placement and Support) to help people find jobs that suit them and provide ongoing support to both the employee and employer. Our staff are embedded within frontline services, including accommodation and street outreach, reducing barriers to access for clients and ensuring that everyone who wants to work can explore this option.

How we work

Clients are supported by highly trained Employment Specialists who provide 1:1 employment advice and coaching to help them to identify their strengths and capabilities. Candidates are fully supported through the process of applying for work, and provided with guidance on how moving into work will affect their benefits. Once a client is in work, we continue to support them for up to three months while they settle into their new job.

Job brokerage

We work with local employers across London and the south, brokering bespoke routes into work, including placements, work experience, and paid employment. We offer guidance and training to help employers support candidates effectively, improving retention rate and creating positive social impact. Want to advertise your next role with us?
